The companies are then sorted by industry and with the 15 largest selected for each international industry and the 10 largest for each U.S. industry. A total of 673 companies from 32 countries were surveyed. To create the 57 industry lists, the global management consulting firm Hay Group asked executives, directors, and analysts to rate companies in their own industry on nine criteria, some of which are listed below
- Quality of products and services
- Long-term investment
- Quality of management
- Social responsibility
- People management
- Use of corporate assets
