by Structured Settlement Watchdog
Relying on structured settlement buyers for accurate information about structured settlements is not recommended and could be to your detriment. Here are some examples of three companies who mislead on the fundamentals based on a Google search this morning.
JG Wentworth Misleads
"Structured settlements are payment streams which are awarded to those who settle a lawsuit. They are often an alternative to the large compensatory lump sums that typically do not offer long-term financial stability". What is a Structured Settlement and Everything You Need to Know?
You would think that with the tens of millions it spends on advertising, you would think that JG Wentworth should be able to afford competent writers and fact checkers. Nobody is awarded a settlement. A settlement is not an award. Duh. That and JG Wentworth's meta tags embedded into their website code, suck you in with JG Wentworth's misrepresentation that its everything you need to know about structured settlements.
CBC Settlement Funding's Lead Pimp Annuity(dot) Org Misleads
"A structured settlement is a type of annuity that pays out lawsuit rewards over a long period of time" and the double cup of "poo poo stew"
"A structured settlement is a regular stream of payments granted to the plaintiff in a civil lawsuit".
Somehow Annuity (dot) org gets the largest share of traffic for the key word structured settlement with writers who are highly incompetent and don't even meet Annuity(dot)orgs own posted standards. A structured settlement is not a type of annuity. The "over a long period of time" is a common attempt by such unethical companies to unsettle annuitants to sell for pennies on the dollar. Structured settlement can be established to include shorter term cash flows as well. They are negotiated settlements not granted awards. Annuity.org is consistently one of the least reliable sources for accurate information about structured settlements in my professional opinion. Steve Pasko CEO of Sutton Park, why are you putting up with the mediocrity?
Novation Settlement Solutions/ Novation Funding LLC Misleading as Well as Dazed and Confused
"An annuity is a form of investment that pays out income over a determined period of time. The size and length of the payments depend on what type of annuity you have, some paying out over a certain number of years and others for the owner’s lifetime. A 10% early withdrawal penalty before age 59 ½ and tax-deferred investments make it a common option for retirement planning for many Americans".
Robin Shapiro is a very sharp guy, but this is an absolute disgrace. Novation Settlement Solutions is dazed and confused about what a structured settlement is. The description , which appears in their structured settlement faq is all "faqd up". What appears to be described is a retirement annuity and they haven't even got that right.
