Why Vegans Should Not Be Investing in "Secondary Market Annuities"
Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose. Not a week goes by where I don't get a Facebook post in my feed about animal cruelty in the food processing industry. Here's some more food for thought. In between being enlightened about horrifying manure pools at North Carolina pig farms that could leech into the local water table at any moment and male chicks sent into a shredder at chicken farms. Graphic and real. I got to thinking about something else graphic and real and ...
Disabled individuals are also living creatures
Some disabled individuals, often young and minorities, are being treated like animals (cash cows) and financially exploited from the time they reach majority by unlicensed representatives of hedge fund backed buyers of structured settlement payment rights, who then sell the rights obtained by exploitation of disabled individuals, to investors.
Investors are also living creatures
In turn some of those investors are senior citizens who are exploited into using their retirement funds to buy structured settlement payment rights through deception. The investors are suckered into believing they are buying annuities when they are not annuities. Structured settlement receivables are as much annuities as those non Kosher North Carolina pig manure pools are potable water. Some seniors are blissfully unaware that they are taking on transaction risks not present in annuities and that they may be buying investments with a greater risk of financial loss than they can afford. There is not enough state regulation at the moment to be able to rely on for protection of these vulnerable living creatures.
While I am personally not a Vegan, I am open to learning more about it. I hope that ethical Vegans will consider the parallels between how some disabled individuals are serially exploited to the tune of multi millions of dollars in some cases and then cast adrift like trash. Dollars that were intended to secure their financial future gone. Some of the people exploited have traumatic brain injuries.
