What is Court Scraping?
Court scraping refers to the "scraping" of court records of court approved settlements, or structured settlement transfers, for personal identifiable information that can be used to identify people who are receiving structured settlements so they can be solicited by cash now pushers or companies they outsource to. Often these annuitants are bombarded with excessive direct mail, phone calls and other forms of approach that some have considered to be harassment.
Many court documents can be found online these days, sometimes for free, other times for a small charge. If not available on line, settlement purchasers dispatch representatives directly, or through the company they outsource to, to pay a visit to the courthouse and obtain the records.
