Annuity Guys is a purveyor of "pre issued annuities". In support of its marketing efforts, Annuity Guys offer two case studies, one of which is a retiring couple " Bill and Cindy". I thought Bill's mug looked familiar and I just found out why.
In October 2009, a blog post in our Structured Settlement Social Media Road Kill series calling out rubbish about structured settlements written by someone named Jim O'Neal. Annuity Guys'' " Bill" is the splittin' image of Jim O'Neal. Check below, look at that punim, it's uncanny!
So it would not be unreasonable to ask, does the Annuity Guys' "Bill and Cindy" case study involve real people?
The Close up
Now here's the throwback Jim O'Neal, "structured settlement expert". Uncanny!
A case study is a method for doing research.
According to scholars Robert K. Yin and Jon Shepard, a case study is "a descriptive, exploratory or explanatory analysis of a person, group or event. An explanatory case study is used to explore causation in order to find underlying principles. Case studies may be prospective (in which criteria are established and cases fitting the criteria are included as they become available) or retrospective (in which criteria are established for selecting cases from historical records for inclusion in the study)" [seeRobert K. Yin. Case Study Research: Design and Methods. Fourth Edition. SAGE Publications. California, 2009. ISBN 978-1-4129-6099-1 and Wikipedia]
Did the Annuity Guys really do a case study?
Just asking...What say your readers?
P.S. The unforgettable visage of "Bill" or is it "Jim's" bespectacled "spouse " "Cindy" can be found on the website for the YWCA of Tulsa and Americans Against the Tea Party.
