Erstwhile structured settlement "splogger of the century", John Jonas is spilling tears over getting suspended from Google Adwords for a trademark violation. Here's how he blubbed it on the John Jonas blog. The message is, be aware and respectful of other people's trademarks and copyrights!
For the uninitiated, Google Adwords are those "originally intended to be useful" pay per click ads that are peppered around virtually every Internet page. Some pages appear to be designed to contain more pay per click ads than useful content. The high value of the keywords "structured settlement" and "structured settlements" in particular, and their derivations, led to a cottage industry of abuse and made some opportunists rich at the expense of bewildered tort victims, including and profoundly injured people. One of my first posts when I started this blog exposed one of Jonas' blogs that had spider webs of gibberish designed to entrap the unwary and bewildered who were looking for information about structured settlements. Rather than find useful information they met the "sticky" handiwork of profiteering super geeks like Jonas, web pages designed so that an unwary user would click away and away, each time making Jonas money but getting no closer to the information they needed in timely fashion.
On another note, Jonas' use of the term "Nazi" to "manufacture outrage" in his description of Google is both inappropriate, unnecessary and in incredibly poor taste. While many us laughed at Jewish comedian Jerry Seinfeld's famous "Soup Nazi" episode, let us not forget that the term "Nazi" has a shameful place in world history and should not be used gratuitously . These days Connecticut Democratic congressional candidate Lee Whitnum, recently named one of the "Top Clowns of 2007" by the Fairfield (County) Weekly, deems it appropriate to use the term "Nazi" as part of her campaign strategy, posting "Jim Himes Nazi Connecticut" on the Lee Whitnum 2008 campaign website, and on the Democratic blog "My Left Nutmeg", as part of a challenge to her opponent to debate. Let's face it folks, neither Google nor Jim Himes butchered more than 6 million people!
