The Structured Settlement Industry is an established multi billion dollar industry in the United States. The concept has evolved over a 25-30 year period and there are applications in both the traditional qualified as well as non qualified case arena. While some other countries, like Canada, have established structured settlement industries, in others, like the UK and Australia, the concept has not yet achieved the level of penetration that is does in the USA.
Citizens of other countries could benefit from establishing a framework and infrastructure to enable structured settlements to be used on a more formal basis. Claimants or Plaintiffs in your countries could benefit from receiving a customized pension or series of future periodic payments as part of the compensation for their injuries or loss of a loved one.
I notice that an increasing and steady number of our readers come from outside the United States. I am interested in opening a dialogue with interested individuals, law firms, insurer and reinsurer representatives, brokers, government regulators and other company representatives to explore ways that the structured settlement concept can be expanded in their countries. I'm sure there is alot of work and collaboration needed but let's give it a shot.
