A.M. Best announced an increase in its rating of Liberty Life Assurance Company of Boston to A (Excellent) from A-(Excellent).
The rating improvement also applies to its parent, Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Clearly this is a step in the right direction for Liberty Life and Liberty Mutual and we hope that both Liberty Life Assurance Company of Boston and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company eventually earn back the A+ (Superior) rating from AM Best that they previously enjoyed.
Plaintiffs, Plaintiff attorneys, Judges and many insurance company programs that are on the decision making side of structured settlement transactions often have minimum requirements for the A.M. Best rating of the annuity issuer. Often that is an "A+" (Superior), which has hurt Liberty Life Assurance Company of Boston, Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and others when their ratings dipped because structured settlement decision makers will go with the higher rated company if structured settlement annuity costs are similar.
